Department of Architectural Heritage

The Department of Architectural Heritage is responsible for the preservation and management of the heritage architecture and plants of the Forbidden City. The primary duties of this department involve the following: plan yearly strategies, schedules, and budgets for the conservation of heritage architecture and all historic structures in and associate with the Forbidden City; supervise the design and inspection of conservation projects; oversee the monitoring of the Palace Museum as a World Heritage Site; conduct regular and unscheduled inspections of all heritage architecture associated with the Palace Museum; manage electrical projects; ensure the proper functioning of lightning protection systems; collect and manage the Museum’s archives regarding heritage architecture; develop research in the study of architectural heritage; and preserve the ancient trees and all plants in and around the Forbidden City.
