This incense burner is modeled after the shape of a ritual bronze gui vessel. The curved S-shape of the outer contour outlines the roundness of this elegant piece. Supported by a round, flat base, the incense burner features a pair of fish-shaped handles. With a primitive simplicity and elegant style, this incense burner was in the collection of the Qing imperial family. Famous among the many articles of Ge ware, the piece was modeled after an ancient form. Though imitations of this Song-dynasty vessel were made during the later Yuan and Ming periods, none could reach the charm of the original.
