This exhibition is divided into four sections, which tell the story of Britain’s growing interest in the history and landscape of their own country, of their admiration for classical European civilization and Renaissance achievements; and how a fascination with world cultures developed as Britain extended its influence in the Middle East, in the Indian subcontinent, and in Africa, the Americas and the Pacific Ocean. The last section looks at how British people of the period thought about and were drawn to the “mysterious East” of China, culminating in the sending of the Macartney embassy to the court of the Qianlong Emperor (r. 1736-1795) by King George III. Visitors of the Palace Museum can visit the exhibition with their entrance tickets without any extra charge. For a single visit of this exhibition, the ticket price is 20 yuan, with a 50% discount for students with ID cards. Visitors can purchase the tickets at the Meridian Gate (Wu men) and enter the gallery through the gate.
