The Emperor's Secret Treasures: Stone Rubbings of Rare Editions Collected by the Qing Court

The term "stone rubbings" means rubbings from the stone inscriptions, which have academic and artistic values in many ways. Its content is related to politics, economy, religion, custom, national conditions, literature and art, providing a vast amount of valuable information for researches on ancient literature, history and philology. Stone rubbings and ancient books are complemented to each other. There is limited number of stone rubbings left due to the long history. Stone rubbings preserve handwritings of celebrities in every historical period, presenting the writing styles of different schools using all five kinds of script including seal script, clerical script, regular script, cursive script, and running script. It surely can be regarded as the treasure-house of Chinese calligraphy.
