White and Serene: Selected Ding Ware From the Palace Museum Collection

The Ding Kiln started producing ceramics in the Tang dynasty (618-907) and thrived during the Song (960-1279) and the Jurchen Jinn(1115-1234) dynasties. It phased out in the late Yuan dynasty (1271-1368). The Ding kiln was celebrated for its white-glazed ceramic ware which is designed in decent shapes, coated with pure white and lustrous glaze, and primarily decorated with carved, incised, molded, or gold-tracery floral designs. Besides their large volume consumed by the multitudes, the Ding ware had been the major ceramic supplier for the imperial family and governments from late Tang dynasty to the Jurchen Jinn dynasty.
