Selected Works Donated by Mr. Sun Yingzhou (1893-1966)

Mr. Sun Yingzhou was from a small village in northeastern China\'s Hebei province. After years of working in antique shops in the capital city Beijing, starting as an apprentice and errand-runner, and eventually becoming buyer and vice manager, he finally settled down and established his own business. He opened the Dunhua Antique Shop in downtown Beijing in 1923.
Through extensive antique collection, Mr. Sun had gained considerable authentication experience. He was a world-renowned antique collector and connoisseur by the 1940s. In 1956 he joined the Palace Museum as a connoisseur of ceramics, and donated his prized collection of more than 3,000 pieces to the Museum. Mr. Sun Yingzhou summarized his knowledge of antique authentication and made earnest efforts to pass it on to younger professionals, making significant contributions to the preservation of China’s cultural heritage and to the training of museum professionals.
The exhibition is curated in honor of Mr. Sun for the 120th anniversary of his birth.
