Report on the Seminar on “Ceramics Archeology and Art” ——Sino-Foreign Cultural Exchange Center, the Palace Museum
Co-hosted by the Institute of Ceramics Archeology and Art Research of the Department of History at Beijing Normal University, the Institute of Ceramics Archeology and Art Research at Peking University, and the Sino-Foreign Cultural Exchange Center of the Palace Museum, the seminar entitled “Ceramics Archeology and Art” was held in Beijing from April 10 to April 11, 2021. More than fifty scholars from some twenty universities and research institutions attended the seminar, among which nineteen scholars gave presentations of their research findings. The main themes included the modes of production and organization of Chinese ancient ceramics and the diffusion of its technology, the domestic market and overseas circulation, new archeological evidence and directions, textual studies of images, analysis of historical and cultural origins, new findings from scientific and technological examinations, etc.

Status Report Meeting on Phase I of the Digital Preservation Project for Gautama Monastery in Qinghai Province Held at the Palace Museum
On 15 April 2021, the status report meeting on the first phase of the Digital Preservation Project for Gautama Monastery (Qutan si) in Qinghai Province was held at the Palace Museum in the Studio of Esteemed Excellence (Jingsheng zhai) in the garden of the Palace of Established Happiness (Jianfu gong). Lou Wei, managing deputy-director of the Palace Museum, and Zhu Hongwen, deputy-director of the Palace Museum, were both present at the meeting. Ren Wanping, deputy-director of the Palace Museum, was present and spoke at the meeting while Wang Hao, deputy-director of the Palace Museum’s Department of Palace Life and Imperial Ritual, presided over the meeting. Also present at the meeting were representatives from the Qinghai Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, Qinghai Province Museum, Qinghai Provincial Archaeological Institute, and related entities.

“I’m Painting at the Palace Museum: Hearing-Impaired Youth Exploring the Cultural Heritage Site” Activity on International Day for Monuments and Sites
On the morning of 18 April 2021, the National Cultural Heritage Administration, Chinese Committee for the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS China), the Palace Museum, and China Rehabilitation Research Center for Hearing and Speech Impairment jointly held the “Diverse Heritages: Diverse Futures” themed “I’m Painting at the Palace Museum: Hearing-Impaired Youth Exploring the Cultural Heritage Site” for the 2021 International Day for Monuments and Sites. Fifteen hearing-impaired youths were led by Palace Museum specialists to explore the cultural heritage site, learn about colorful painted embellishments on ancient architecture, personally paint samples of the colorful embellishments, and engage in exciting exchanges with specialists in cultural heritage protection.
